SEO Tips For High Rankings
An extremely important aspect of SEO is keyword density. Keyword density refers to the percentage of times a certain phrase or keyword compared to the total number of words on that particular page. Keyword density can is utilized as a tool to gauge how relevant a web page is to a specified keyword phrase. In the early days of search engines, keyword density was the main factor that decided where the page would be ranked in the engine. As technology increased and the years went on, webmasters started to abuse this concept. You would find websites full of articles that had keyword densities of 10-15% and made no sense. Luckily, the search engines changed how they did things, keyword density became less and less of a factor as to how the pages were ranked.
Most SEO experts in the field will agree that a perfect keyword density is between 1-3%. For example, you have an article about potatoes. Your article is 500 words long and the keyword density is 2%. That means you would find the word “potato/potatoes” in the article 10 times (500 * 0.02). If you have less than one percent keyword density, your article will not be effective in reaching your audience from the search engine. If your keyword density is too great, your website may be penalized by the search engine web crawlers and not receive as high of a ranking as it could have. As you can tell, finding a balance between too little and too great is imperative to driving traffic to your website.
Despite the lessened reliance upon keywords by major search engines, keywords are still a major part of any search engines search algorithm. Every search engine has a different equation that they use to determine the “correct” keyword density for a website. Most search engines have a “correct” density of around 2%. As you can see, keyword density is a very important subject to understand if you are going to attempt to get your website a higher rank on any major search engine.
